Campaigns
On Friday 17th July 2026, members of the Justice for Refugees SA management committee joined with Adelaide Vigils for Refugees off Manus and Nauru to commemorate that it is now 13 years since the arbitrary decision by the Rudd Labor government that anyone seeking asylum by boat after 19th July 2013 would never be settled permanently in Australia. Many were evacuated from Nauru for medical reasons and have been living in our community for over 10 years. They are our neighbours but still have no pathway to permanency. They are regarded by subsequent governments as “transitory”.
Permanency for this group of refugees is the main focus of our advocacy in 2026.

We are passionate about increasing awareness around the issues that affect refugees and people seeking asylum, and promoting an inclusive and welcoming Australia.
We rely on members and supporters to keep up the momentum and assist us in working towards ensuring people seeking asylum are treated justly and compassionately. There are many ways you can help.
Events & Local Government Linked Initiatives
The Back Your Neighbour Campaign, through the Mayoral Taskforce, is a coalition of local councils across Australia who have signed up to support refugees and people recently arrived in their local communities. Their objectives are similar to those of Justice for Refugees SA.
